Methods to assess compliance with occupational exposure limit values with a statistical approach: comparison between the UNI EN 689:2019 standard and the AIDII 1990 Guidelines

The study, through the use of exemplary datasets of values for the assessment of occupational exposure to hazardous chemicals, defines a judgment of compliance with the respective occupational exposure limit values for 15 exposure scenarios. The judgment is processed for each scenario both with the statistical method indicated by the UNI EN 689:2019 standard, and by applying the method proposed by the 1990 AIDII guidelines, based on the application of the OTL Test (One-sided Tolerance Limit Test). The compliance judgments obtained with the two methods agree in 8 out of 15 cases. The non-compliance of judgments on some of the selected exposure scenarios was expected, as the method proposed by the AIDII guidelines presents requirements that make it more conservative than the method proposed by the UNI EN 689:2019 standard. For what has been said, the compliance judgment obtained through the use of the OTL test, if applied as proposed by the AIDII operating guides of 1990, is also valid in accordance to UNI EN 689:2019.
