Abstract

The European Commission adopted on December 8, 2022, published in the Official Journal of the European Union L 325/179
of 20.12.2022, a document in the form of a recommendation (Recommendation (EU) 2022/2510 of the Commission which
establishes a European assessment framework for chemicals and materials 'safe and sustainable by design')
on the design and development of safe and sustainable substances and materials [Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD)].
This is a new approach that goes beyond current compliance requirements and involves the design of new substances
and materials (or redesign of existing ones) according to certain criteria and the evaluation of the related safety and sustainability.
